Q: Where does the story take place?

A: The story takes place in Sequoyah, Oklahoma.

Q:Where do you think the story takes place?


A: We think the story takes place in the late 90's or early 2000's.

Q: How were the living circumstances? Would you say they were rich, middle class or poor?

A: We think the living circumstances were very poor because in the book, Novalee said she has never lived in a house that wasn't on wheels. They were low on cash and gets mad when Novalee askes him for $5 dollars to buy shoes.

Q: What is the mood of the novel so far?

A: The mood of the novel is sad and lonely. She doesnt fight for what she deserves.When Willy Jack left she didnt even seem surprised. It was almost as if she expected it because she didn't feel like anyone could really love her. Also, she is a teenage girl who is alone and pregnant with no father for her child.

Q: What is the conflict?
A: The conflict is when Willy Jack left Novalee stranded at Wal-mart when she went in to go buy some shoes.

Q: Who is Forney? Who is Sister Husband? Who is Moses Whitecotton?

A: Forney is the librarian who is befriended Novalee and may have feelings for her.
Sister Husband is a person that she met at Wal-mart and who had given her a gift basket and told her to come over whenever.

Moses Whitecotton is a black man who she meets at Wal-mart and tells her the importance of names.


Q: Why do you think Willy Jack left Novalee?
A: Willy Jack didn't want to take on the responsibility of being a father and he did not have the money for it.

Q: Why do you think Novalee wished for a buckeye?

A: Novalee wished for a buckeye for the upcoming weeks so that it would bring her goodluck.

Q: Do you think Forney has feelings for Novalee, even though she is pregnant?

A: Yes, We think Forney does have feelings for Novalee because he makes her a birthday dinner and helps her deliver her baby.

Q: Do you think Willy Jack was going to dump Jolene somewhere and leave, like he did to Novalee?
A: We think that at the beggining Willy Jack wasn't thinking about leaving Jolene, but eventually we think he would of dropped her off somewhere and left.
